The drawings you see were created by C. E. Bowden. All drawings were done free hand from scratch upon paper or egg shell. All drawings were drawn with pencil and/or ball point pen. I have been drawing since I was a child. All techniques were/are self taught. All the little universes of detail you see were created without any visual aids of any sort. All the shading and tones were accomplished with the point of a pencil or a ballpoint pen; no airbrush or "smudging" techniques were used. Proportionality was gained by way of the camera image, same since the days of Leonardo Davinci. The image is squared off and the surface, such as an egg, requires a different patterning, but is of the same idea. My tools are pencils 9H to 4B, ballpoint pens, markers of all colors, a light, a desk, a kneaded eraser, a pencil sharpener, and a chair.

As with some others who pursue sports, music, etc., my interests since childhood were to be "the best," to go where no other had been, to set a standard far beyond those known and believed to be possible. This basic concept/desire, along with the idea of timelessness now, led over the years to the development of techniques previously unknown. As I have stated many times, this is rather more a state of mind acheived rather than of mannerisms acquired. I have written a "how to" booklet and if you are interested, please contact me. If this website proves to reveal enough interest from those wishing to learn my drawing techniques and the motivating ideas behind them, then I will consider offering a class. Please let me know. I have never taught before. I have no grand resume... I have no paper trail history of "important" exhibitions, I have not received honors, awards, grants, or press. I am practically unknown as unknown gets, but, I do have drawings which no other hand can duplicate and of which there is no comparison in all of history, and no art historian, regardless of the tonage of words spun, can delude that fact. I look forward to possibly teaching someday, I know there are others on the path I am, I just hope to help along the way.

The drawings take from 30 to 1000 hours. Nearly all of my drawings involve human beings. The humans I draw once existed and did not spring from some glorious imagination.... Human beings do not sit still, nor do their emotions... and so I, as has been done for 500± years, employ the projected image of light via the lens and camera to assure affinity to existing reality. I draw to change the world... for the better. I draw to let you know endless desire springs from us all... even from the simplest tools, grand potentiality exists and awaits fruition of desire born from a mind's and heart's want of expression. This may be primitive thinking... but this primitive thinking has proven and shown.... all the computers and cameras of this theoretically advanced world, can't compete in detail or toneality or beauty with one pencil in one hand of one human being who follows but one timeless desire, to create as no one ever has, and so, as always, the Triumph of Art will be; no technology, no matter how theoretically progressed, can compare with us simple humans who create but for the Love of Expression and Beauty. These drawings are not the result of a technique nor of a hand nor of a pencil...these are but the actualizations of desire. Manifestations of want. My hands and eyes are but manipulators...the pencils and ballpoints are but available tools existent, chosen in route to a desired end. My drawings exist due to desire. As everyone possesses desire, the achievements actualized/brought forth through your hands will in the end, all be each the revealer of that level of desire expressed at each and every moment of that creation. Desire is but the foundation of all creation. All achievements are but the result of some level of expressed desire. I can show you my techniques. They will do you no good unless you find within you wants of energy enough to motivate oneself, if the desire be great enough, the confidence will follow. No one is in your way. Nothing is stopping you. Your excuses are none. All is achievable. It is within you, find it. Listen to no one that deters or takes away from your creative wants and confidence. You are on your road to acquired abilities by means of freely allowing desires within existent now flow. All you do is but foundational support to build upon and surpass where you've been. Where you stop is your decision. If you're comfortable stopping here, where many choose abandonment of further allowment of desire expression, then stop. Your journey is with the many among the many. However, far beyond the many, awaits many an achievement in many a medium, and it is now, at this time to reveal to all the beauty of the fruition of creative expression freely flowing from the desires within.
